TÍTULO:
Modern Photon-Counting in Astronomy: High-Resolution Imaging Reaches Nirvana
RESUMEN:
Two old high-resolution imaging techniques, speckle imaging and intensity interferometry, have seen a resurgence in recent years. This talk will discuss the technical developments in photon counting that have enabled this and the science currently being pursued, with special attention to the Differential Speckle Survey Instrument (DSSI, a visitor instrument at the Gemini Observatory) and its successor instruments at WIYN and Gemini-N. DSSI has been a workhorse for Kepler and K2 follow-up observations, as well as the K-KIDS multiplicity survey and other projects. In addition, a prototype instrument for wireless optical intensity interferometry will be briefly described and some preliminary engineering data will be presented.
