Title: Link from filaments to star formation through kinematics
Abstract: The role of the filamentary structures in molecular clouds has recently been brought into sharp focus thanks to the Herschel data. However, how the filamentary clouds convert their gas mass into stellar mass is still one of the most fundamental open questions in star formation. While various theoretical models aim to explain filamentary star formation, major open questions remain as to the possible roles of the most basic physical actors in the conversion of gas to stellar mass across the mass function of both clouds and stars. So far, we have already known that both scale-dependent fragmentation, and dynamics and kinematics of the gas are powerful probes of the physics in these gravitationally collapsing turbulent systems. In this talk, I will discuss about the link from filaments to star formation, mainly through kinematic observations.
