Fecha: 25 de marzo a las 17:00 hrs.
Expositor: Dr. Carsten Trinitis (Fakultät Informatik de la Technische Universität München).
Resumen: The talk will give an overview of the research projects carried out by Carsten Trinitis’ group at Lehrstuhl für Rechnertechnik und Rechnerorganisation/Parallelrechnerarchitektur, Technische Universität München, Germany.
The projects are carried out within the Munich Multicore Initiative (MMI), which was founded in 2006 focussing on multi- and many core specific
research. Architecture specific features (as opposed to standard SMP programming) within the multi-core context are mainly additional interconnects and
additional cache hierarchy levels. Taking these aspects into account, optimising parallel programs can become quite cumbersome.
The talk will present different applications that serve as “multicore benchmarks” within MMI, and how they perform on contemporary processor architectures. An outlook will be given on future many-core architectures and their applicability in High Performance Computing as well as on the role of GPUs as an accelerator component for numerical operations.
