Seminario de Recursos Hídricos: “Constructed wetlands as a nature-based solution for water pollution control: performance and perspectives for arsenic removal”
Expone:
Katherine Lizama, Ph.D. in Civil Engineering. Assistant Professor in the Civil Engineering Department, Water Resources and Environment Area, Universidad de Chile. My work areas include environmental engineering, water quality and control, geochemistry of metals and metalloids in aquatic systems, and natural treatment systems such as constructed wetlands for water pollution control.

Abstract:
Constructed wetlands are a nature-based solution for water pollution control, able to remove different pollutants, including arsenic. Even though they have potential for arsenic removal, the lack of design guidelines limits their application for this purpose. In this seminar, I will present and discuss the key findings of my research on the performance of subsurface flow constructed wetlands in the removal of arsenic from contaminated water , and perspectives for current and future research.
