Bachelor of Science in Geology

Academic Degrees:

Bachelor of Science in Geology

Duration:

12 semesters, with semi-flexible curriculum, except in the first year of studies, which is annual and is part of the “Common Plan” (Plan Común) of Engineering and Sciences.

Description

An Andean country, replete with volcanoes, and with the driest desert in the world and the largest mining projects: Chile, a very interesting place to study geology! Geologists study the earth’s crust and how it is evolving in time. Those studying geology (at the FCFM) are skilled at exploring and detecting mineral, water and energy resources, while prepared to evaluate and seek solutions to geological hazards (earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, for example), environmental and civil works. If you like science, being in direct contact with nature, and also contributing to improving the life of the community, geology is the right track for you.

Career Opportunities

Given the physical characteristics of our country, geologists have a wide range of possibilities for professional development in the public and private sectors. Mining and energy companies are the main sources of work. Prospects are also presented in the field of basic and applied geological research and evaluation of projects in exploration and exploitation of natural resources as well as the assessment and planning for civil construction works and urban settlements.
