Electrical Engineering is a field that is closely linked with the technological, social and industrial development of a country. In this context, the PhD in Electrical Engineering Program at University of Chile is aimed to train researchers and specialists in the area of Electrical Engineering who are capable of contributing to the development of this scientific & technological discipline. Graduates from this program are able to work as faculty members or researchers in universities, research centers and development companies.

The PhD program in Electrical Engineering consists of formal courses, tutorials or seminars, and a Doctoral Thesis. Specialization could be carried out in fields of control systems, energy & power systems, signals & telecommunications, robotics & intelligent systems, and astronomical instrumentation. Some of the topics that are covered in these areas include: modern control systems, fault diagnosis and failure prognosis, model identification, mobile robotics, computing intelligence, artificial vision, biomedical engineering, fuzzy logic, evolutionary computing, neural networks, distributed electricity generation, electric machines control, design and control based on power and control electronics, renewable energies, electrical markets, planning and operation of electric power systems, image processing, statistical signal processing, voice transmission and processing, dynamic systems, among others.

The duration of the program is expected in 4 years (full time).



Requisitos de Admisión

Students wishing to apply for Doctoral programs offered by the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, University of Chile must have a bachelor or master degree in a similar area, granted by a national or international university certifying a solid background in the specific area of the doctoral program. The Academic Committee of the program will review each application taking into account all the required background.

Applicants have to submit all their educational records at the moment of application. Some of them are:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Application Form
  • Transcript of records of the previous courses and their programs in case they come from other national or international universities.
  • Bachelor's or master's diploma
  • A letter of intention, and at least two letters of recommendation.
