English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI): Planning and teaching your subject in English

As a response to the internationalisation agenda of higher education institutions, universities in non-Anglophone countries are increasingly implementing programmes taught in English or in English Medium Instruction (EMI) in order to adapt to a fast-changing global environment. However, this initiative also brings novel challenges for university lecturers and students alike who must embrace this change without professional training nor institutional support. It is crucial to acknowledge that the EMI classroom involves much more than delivering subject content through English; it is a complex process that requires pedagogical, linguistic and intercultural adaptation. Therefore, we would like to invite you to attend this workshop to rethink and revisit together our teaching methods and establish if we are ready to face the challenges of multilingual and multicultural diverse learning spaces within Universidad de Chile.
