The PhD in Engineering Systems is an academic and interdisciplinary program.
This ´program aims to find a new generation of high-level academics and experts in the field, capable to integrate quantitative methodologies and operational decision in companies and institutions related to complex problems, which could be described as: big size, intrinsic randomness, having non evident dynamics, and generate important externalities, such as transport and network systems, electric power systems, service and production systems.
This program considers method training, applications and approaches that make contributions to do high-level research. The PhD in Engineering Systems has a common period of theoretical courses related to optimization, estocastic processes and micro economy, following a period of specialization in one of the following areas: transport, operation management, economy, energy and elective courses. After that, students have to take a test, do a thesis research and take the final examination.
This PhD in Engineering Systems is composed of a good number of excellent academics in this field. Professors from the following Departments belong to the Faculty of PhD in Engineering Systems: Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Mathematics Engineering.
Graduates will have a rigorous and cross-sectional vision of Engineering, emphasizing their first-level research and will be prepared to make new contributions to the growing challenges in terms of production and social developments, not only in research centers and institutions at a university level, but also in companies and governmental office centers.
